Mind, Body, Spirit: Finding Balance

Creating balance in your life can be a challenge. With all that you do each and every day, it can be difficult to find a moment to set aside just for you. Our culture tells us that health is about a good diet and exercise and while that is true, our mind and body are connected so it is important to nurture both. There are things you can do that will align your mind and body.

Breathe Deeply: taking deep breaths has proven to relax and calm the body and mind. Take notice of how many times during the day you are holding your breathe. Stop at that moment and inhale, hold for two or three seconds, then exhale.

Mediation: improves your memory, alters your mood and helps you sleep better. Just five minutes each day will relax your mind and body.

Spend time outside: enjoying nature relaxes both body and mind. Spend time outside; a short walk, a picnic, even a walk to the grocery store instead of a drive.

Be kind: to yourself and others, always.

Sleep: you are never going to be your best if you cut your sleep short. Napping in 20 minute intervals can clear your mind and energize your thoughts.

Be grateful: we hear it all of the time, but take a moment each day to look around and be grateful for what you have. Whether it’s your kids, your partner or your health. Be grateful.

Listen to music: this is great because you can do it anywhere. Even if you’re stuck in line at a grocery store, you can put in your ear buds and listen to the sounds of nature.

There is nothing more important than your well-being and it is of great importance that in the busy world we live it that we remind ourselves to take things in stride. We overlook the small things our body needs during our busy day. Mind, body and spirit are interdependent so be mindful of each in small ways. Breathe, Relax, make yourself a priority. You’ll be surprised at the results.
